Goldstein’s Bagels is a new bagel shop located in Downtown Boise. Kaitlin was able to interview Jamie Goldstein, the owner.

How many items will you be offering on your menu?

The possibilities are endless really, we’ll have at least 12 bagel flavors as well as 8 or so cream cheese flavors and other classic deli sandwich options. Not to mention egg sandwiches, salads, soup, cookies...
What item do you recommend the most from your menu?

I’m addicted to our black and white cookies and egg creams but I can match anyone with their own perfect meal.
Do you have a personal favorite item from the menu?

Well, my nostalgia sandwich (from when I worked at a bagel store in high school) is The Jamie Jam, which is cream cheese and jelly on an egg onion bagel. My toddler is now a fan and it makes me so happy. These days however I’m more likely to make myself a whitefish salad on pumpernickel with tomato, capers and onions.
What is your favorite part about owning Goldstein’s Bagels?

The best is still yet to come. I thrive in a bustling restaurant where my main job is to make sure people are happy and fulfilled through their food. In Jewish culture we call the ultimate host a Balabusta. The opportunity to be a balabusta at the shop will be my favorite part.
Are you currently involved in any other business endeavors?

No way.
How and why did you start Goldstein’s Bagels?

I worked at a bagel shop the summer I turned 14. It was life changing for me. I loved everything I learned at that job, from how to work with people from a hospitality standpoint, how to handle stress without anyone knowing you feel it and a million more things that became a natural part of who I’ve become. I have enjoyed working in the restaurant industry as a direct result of my 1st job. When I moved out west from NY in 2007 I couldn’t believe there were no bagel stores similar to the ones back home. We’re not reinventing anything here, we’re just bringing it to Boise.
What item from the menu do you think will be the most popular?

The Bodega with bacon. If you know, you know...
Why did you choose to open Goldstein’s Bagels in Boise, ID?

My partner Lucas and I, both restaurant industry lifers, moved here a few years ago from Jackson, WY and realized our idea would fit in really well here. Since we announced our plans for Goldstein’s Bagels I can’t tell you how much enthusiasm we’ve received from this community. It’s been truly incredible and affirming. We cannot wait to open our doors!
